Ronald Manderscheid

Ronald Manderscheid has served as the director of mental health and substance use programs at the Constella Group since 2006. Concurrently, he is adjunct professor at the Department of Mental Health, School of Public Health, Johns Hopkins University.  Previously, Manderscheid served as branch chief, Survey and Analysis Branch, for the federal Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS), SAMHSA.  Manderscheid is the current president of the Federal Executive Institute Alumni Association (FEIAA) Foundation, past president of FEIAA, and past chair of the Mental Health Section of the American Public Health Association. He has also served as the chairperson of the Sociological Practice Section of the American Sociological Association, and as president of the Washington Academy of Sciences and the District of Columbia Sociological Society.

 

During the National Health Care Reform debate, Manderscheid served as policy advisor on National Health Care Reform in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. In 1993, Manderscheid was a member of the Mental Health and Substance Abuse Work Group of the President's Task Force on Health Care Reform.  He served as principal editor of Mental Health, United States between 1987 and 2004. He has also authored numerous scientific and professional publications on services to persons with mental illnesses.  From 1975 to 1992, Manderscheid worked in a variety of positions with the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). From 1981 to 1992, Manderscheid served as NIMH's chief, Statistical Research Branch, where he provided strong leadership in implementing the National Reporting System (NRP) and the Mental Health Statistics Improvement Program (MHSIP).
