David S. Broder
Pulitzer Prize Winning Journalist for the Washington Post
Born in Chicago Heights, Illinois, in 1929, David Broder received his bachelor's degree and a master’s degree in political science from the University of Chicago. He served two years in the U.S. Army before beginning his journalism career on the Bloomington Pantagraph. He has been a fellow of the Institute of Politics of the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and a fellow of the Institute of Policy Sciences and Public Affairs at Duke University.
Before joining the national reporting staff of The Washington Post in 1966, David Broder covered national politics for The New York Times (1965-66), The Washington Star (1960-65) and Congressional Quarterly (1955-60). He has covered every national campaign and convention since 1960, traveling as much as 100,000 miles a year to interview voters and report on the candidates.
David Broder was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in May 1973 for “distinguished commentary” and was named “Best Newspaper Political Reporter” by Washington Journalism Review in 1985.
